What is hosting?

"Hosting" is the practise of storing and serving the web pages for the anyone on the internet to access. In order for people to access your web pages, they must reside on a computer that is constantly connected to the internet. It is not very flexible, in that you have little or no choice in what the URL will look like. This has the added disadvantage of being an excessively long URL that is often difficult to remember. An example would be "http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/your_account_name"

Can I change my host?

Generally, you can change your host at any time, usually at a nominal cost. It is highly recommended, however, that you attempt to "get it right" the first time. If your pages are constantly moving around the Internet from one hosting solution to another, it is difficult for online search engines to properly catalogue and identify your site to potential customers and clients who may be searching for your product and/or service.
